LIVE from NYPL: Colm Tóibín with Caoilinn Hughes: Long Island
Colm Tóibín will speak with fellow Irish author Caoilinn Hughes (who’s new novel The Alternatives will be published this year) about his long awaited follow-up to the novel Brooklyn, which continues the journey of Irish expat Eilis Lacey twenty years later. Married to Tony Fiorello with two teenage children living on a cul-de-sac in Lindenhurst, Long Island with her husbands extended family, Eilis receives a visit from an Irishman claiming his own wife is pregnant with Tony’s child, and when the baby is born it will be deposited on her doorstep. Long Island tells the story of what Eilis does in response to this shattering news.
